Thanks so much for your response. We are keeping him on a long leash at this time when we take him outside, because last week he ran off through the lush groundcover and disappeared into the brush for about a half hour with both me and Dexter hiking around calling to no avail. Last step of the search was for me to make a sweep of the lower part of the property and Dexter to drive down to the gate. No Prez!
Dexter drove back to the house, and there he was waiting for us. So, happy ending, but there are predators, Dexter and Prez saw two coyotes on their way to the mail box this morning, a 1/4 mile walk. We will not be letting him off the leash for the great dash over the vineyard that he so loves until he absolutely will come when called, without fail. We are watching all the "It's Me Or the Dog" t.v., learning some good techniques. Also, we have discovered that as he settles in, he shows that he has had some good training, and follows commands very well. Also working on resolving the cat issue. We keep him on a short leash most of the time in he house so we can make sure he does not bolt and chase. He sits, with reassurance, and trembles some, but no bolting now. So, it looks good.
Who fostered him? I think they did a good job. No sign of having been abused. Vet says he is healthy, altho he has some problem with his knee caps which Vet says is very much a poodle thing. He gives a little skip when he is running hard, but exhibits no discomfort.
Will send a pic soon.
Thanks so much,
Val
