On Thursday evening while a wonderful volunteer/foster/friend of DPS was on a busy So. CA freeway that had halted because of an accident she glanced to her side in exasperation over traffic and saw the huddled figure of a poor little scared to death dog. She immediately jumped out of her car only to realize he had been hit by a car and was not going to take too kindly to her grabbing him up and getting him to safety. With some skills acquired after years of helping often injured or helpless dogs, our good friend got him in her car.
Our own vet after doing x-rays and evaluation sent us to a neurosurgeon specialist as our boy who has now become known as Frogger was diagnosed with a broken back. The specialist gave us the great news that we could expect a full recovery and within several months our boy could be running and jumping...even hopping! But it will cost $8,000.
Our volunteer who risked her safety to save his life has pledged $1000. Our rescue has pledged $2500. We have a photographer who is willing to do a benefit for us in So CA. Now, we turn to our friends, supporters and dog lovers of DPS. We need you. Frogger needs you. We easily could have shrugged our shoulders and said that is too much or we don't have those type of resources. After all, we have never paid this much ever for one surgery on one dog. We could justify and say we already do so much...but if you've ever been around DPS you know we don't give up. We don't throw in the towel. Yes, it's a lot of money. Yes, there's been a discussion about how many lives can be saved with that amount of money. Yes, we've talked about being fiscally responsible with our resources. But in the end, we must try...We must try to save him.
